SCA 10 and Southdown Velo 25
In Saturday 24th August’s Sussex Cycling Association 10-mile time-trial Lewes Wanderer Brett Davis came 9th out of 40 competitors in a time of 23 minutes and 30 seconds over a far from flat course just north-west of Billingshurst. Brett’s wife and fellow Wanderer, although racing for trainSharp, Lisa Davis was part of a three-way tie for 27th place overall, but came a clear second among the female entrants in 26:16. Later that morning their club-mate Roger Hutchings finished 10th of the 11 competitors to tackle the same course on road bikes thanks to his time of 31 minutes and 27 seconds.
The following morning two more Wanderers travelled even further west in order to compete in a Southdown Velo 25-mile time-trial largely centred on the A27 between Arundel and Chichester. Nick Dwyer was going well when sadly he was hit by a car on one of the many roundabouts on the outskirts of Chichester. Fortunately paramedics were on hand to treat his many abrasions, but his helmet, bike and aspirations for this event at least were all written off. Peter Baker survived such scares to place 24th out of 71 racers in a time of 57 minutes and 28 seconds.
