Racing round-up
Most events that Lewes Wanderers take part in are one-off events, or at the very least part of a series. Over the weekend of Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th August Richard Burchett and Simon Head subjected themselves to the 4 stages of the South East Road Race League 2-day stage race.
Proceedings kicked off with a prologue time-trial consisting of a single lap of the Gravesend Cyclopark circuit that would host all of the events with Richard 20th and Simon 25th. This was followed by a 45-minute bunch circuit race in which Richard placed a fine 11th with Simon not far behind in 16th.
Sunday began with a 3-man team time-trial over 3-laps for which they teamed up with Keiren Stanley of Addiscombe CC and came 7th. The final event was an hour-long race around the circuit which resulted in Richard claiming 13th place overall, with Simon just behind in 15th.
Richard had somehow recovered sufficiently to take part in Round 3 of the Southdown Velo Mini Series criterium race around the historic Goodwood Motor Racing Circuit on Tuesday 17th. He placed 18th, but was outshone on the night by Anya Tamplin (Hunt Bike Wheels) who took third place from the 17 females in her race.
The previous Sunday she had performed admirably in a high quality field to take 29th place in the Owen Blower Memorial Road Race over a 105 kilometre course near Loughborough.
On Sunday 22nd August Nick Dwyer and Peter Baker were racing up and down the A3 near Petersfield in a rare 15-mile time-trial, this particular one uprooted by a3crg. Peter recorded a swift time of 33 minutes and 59 seconds to place 25th, but was outdone by Nick who stopped the watch after 30:45 to claim 9th.
