Evening 10s Rd 2 and racing round-up

The second of Lewes Wanderers’ series of 10-mile time-trials took place on the evening of Monday 9th May on the usual A22-based course.  As per Round 1 thirteen riders took part, all members of the host club.

It should have been fourteen, but Duncan Fuller failed to pre-enter in time.  However clubmate Clint Allen gave up his starting spot so that Duncan could compete.  He took full advantage of the generous gesture to take the victory on the night in a time of 23 minutes and 23 seconds.

Runner-up and the only other racer to finish inside 24 minutes was Kate Thomas in 23:59.  On the third step of the podium and fastest of the nine athletes on road bikes was Dan Street with 24:43.  Gavin Richards was 10 seconds behind Dan and just a single second ahead of Neil Edwards.

Graham Knowles was 6th in 25:21 one place ahead of Jamie Goldstein who improved by 42 seconds from last week to improve his personal best to 26:51.  Just 10 seconds behind him Graham Faultless and Charlie Middleton tied for 8th place.

Paul Hanratty was 10th in 28:30, nine seconds ahead of Peter Baker who in turn was 5 seconds faster than Steve Barry in his first attempt at the event.  Adrian Hills rounded out the field with a time of 37:09.

The day before Nick Dwyer (Drag2Zero) had been part of a strong field in both senses in a Veteran Time Trials Association (London and Home Counties) 10-mile TT up and down the A41 between Aylesbury and Tring.  His superb time of 19 minutes and 44 seconds placed him 5th of 89 finishers as 8 riders ducked under the 20-minute barrier.

Jamie Goldstein and Paul Hanratty were back in the saddle on the evening of Tuesday 10th May as Brighton Excelsior CC hosted a 10-mile event of their own.  They took full advantage of the good conditions to improve on their times of the night before.  Paul finished 10th of the 12 competitors in 27:41 while Jamie placed 8th and reduced his personal best to 26:26.

The Dwyer family enjoyed a “Saturday Night at Goodwood” on 14th May as father, mother and daughter raced in a series of time-trials around the motor racing circuit.  Nick (Drag2Zero) completed his five laps totalling 11.85 miles in 25 minutes and 21 seconds to place 6th of 22 men on time-trial bikes.  His wife Kaye covered the same distance in 38:40 to prove the 4th fastest female on a road bike.  Daughter Anna (Drag2Zero) recorded 29:07 and came 7th of the ten females on TT machinery.
