Goodwood Summer Series and TT round-up

The first of a proposed ten round of the Goodwood Summer Series closed-circuit races took place around the historic motor-racing track on the evening of Tuesday 25th April.  Mikey Weavers made a dynamic start to his racing career with Lewes Wanderers as he took his place on the second spot on the podium at the end of the hour long event.

He returned a week later for Round 2, but finished just outside the medals on this occasion.  Making his debut at this form of bunch racing was Neil Edwards in the earlier event for less experienced racers.  Well placed into the final chicane he made an early dash for the line only to run out of steam and be swamped by the rest of the fifteen-strong bunch before the chequered flag.

The track was back in use the following night as a3crg hosted a 10-mile time-trial round this gently rolling course.  Sally Turner, racing for HUUB Wattshop, was 4th of 12 female entrants in a time of 22 minutes and 16 seconds.

It was back to the open road and more specifically the A22 on Thursday evening as Eastbourne Rovers CC held the second of their 10-mile TTs on this course.  Peter Baker was 12th in 28:42 and Adrian Hills one place behind in 34:18 with both on road bikes.

Action switched to the A283 and A23 near Steyning over Coronation weekend as Sussex Cyclists’ Association held their 10-mile time-trial on Saturday morning and the 25-mile event 24-hours later.Sally Turner (HUUB Wattshop) was crowned “queen-for-the-day” as she overcame a heavy downpour just before her start time to speed round in 22:08 to prove fastest of the four female racers and take 17th overall.  Richard Burchett was one place and six seconds behind as he claimed 18th overall from 33 finishers.

In the following morning’s event Peter Baker placed 25th of the 31 to complete the 25-mile course thanks to his time of 1 hour 7 minutes and 32 seconds.
