ESCA 10 and racing round-up
The East Sussex Cycling Association hosted a 10-mile time-trial early on the morning of Sunday 27th March and Lewes Wanderers comprised six of the 37 riders to take the start. Conditions were cool, but dry and what wind there was while into the riders faces as they approached the Boship Roundabout turn at halfway was then behind them as they headed back down the A22 towards East Hoathly.
Fastest of the half-dozen and second fastest man under-40 was Joe Benians who flew round in 21 minutes and 23 seconds. Sixth quickest among the men under 40 years of age and 12th overall was Rob Rollings in 22:19.
Second fastest female and 22nd overall was Kate Thomas who took a full 40 seconds off her previous best in recording a fine 24:37 while clubmate Kate Parrish took bronze among the half-dozen female racers and 27th overall in 25:47. She was directly followed in the overall standings by Neil Edwards (26:10) and Peter Baker (26:28).
Down at the outdoor velodrome in Preston Park, Brighton Richard Burchett took a superb 4th place in Week 6 of the Sussex Cycle Racing League Winter Series races.
Further west in Dorset Sally Turner (trainSharp) took part in Round 1 of the Merlin Cycles Classic Series promoted by Wessex Road Club. She covered the tough rolling course of 23.28 miles between Wimbourne Minster and Blandford Forum in 57 minutes and 50 seconds to place third of the six female competitors.
